Nikkei says Universal Studios Japan is lining up its first expansion of the park grounds since 2001. 200 to 300 billion yen, which is about $1.26 to $1.88 billion.
The land is roughly 60,000 square meters of the old Nippon Steel factory site on the north side of the park (the mill next door). Osaka City owns part of it, and Nikkei says USJ is close to a lease that would start around 2028. New attractions. No ride names, and no land names either.
This is NOT official. Blooloop has Universal Destinations & Experiences telling Reuters they have not confirmed any USJ expansion plans, as I've been told that is the company line today. Nikkei learned it from people familiar, not a park announcement.
USJ already does about 16 million guests a year, the most in Japan. If this sticks, the fence actually moves. Guess we wait for Universal to say it out loud.
