This guide ran long on purpose. I have been to Busch Gardens Tampa twice. The pages still do not agree on what is standing. 2024 was me and Jayden, and Iron Gwazi and Falcon's Fury were both closed after a hurricane. 2025 was the family trip, and I finally got them. If the rest of the week is Orlando, the free shuttle is 100% the strategy I'd recommend. Just… the Quick Queue that looks like a saving grace still leaves you in that standby. Phoenix Rising is out of that pass too. I had the official pages and a pile of r/BuschGardensTampa threads open this week, plus Orlando Informer and TouringPlans. Kumba is GONE. The morning is a split, because Gwazi often does not open with the park.
The big picture
The park sits at 10165 N McKinley Drive, Tampa, FL 33612, about 8 miles northeast of downtown and 2 miles west of I-75 exit 265. The Serengeti Plain is 65 acres of free-roaming herds, and the train and SkyRide both run on regular admission.
- Phoenix Rising is open. Family roller coaster over the Serengeti, up to 44 mph, 42 inch minimum.
- Wild Oasis is open now, rainforest play, a 35 foot Treetop Drop, a climbing canopy, a multi-species habitat, and water play. Lion & Hyena Ridge is listed as all new.
- Kumba is GONE. We pulled the official rides page again on August 26 and it still is not listed. RCDB labeled it defunct the day it closed. Visitors posted last-ride trips. Older Orlando Informer pages still list it. Do not plan around it.
- The park is cashless. Grab the app for the map, waits, Quick Queue, and mobile food ordering, then treat those waits as a guess. Visitors say they are "literally never accurate."
How many days you actually need
If you only have one Saturday, you can do this park. Orlando Informer says you can enjoy most of it in one day, add a Quick Queue if you are crunched, and take two full days if you want to wander.
- A Saturday guest on r/BuschGardensTampa bought Quick Queue Unlimited and said it was the only way they finished that day. Same person said that on a two-day trip they would not have bought it. One day with Quick Queue is about the same as two days without it.
- Animals are the no-wait filler. Coaster101 recommends the main rides first, then the animals. The walk-through habitats, the train, the SkyRide, and Lion & Hyena Ridge are all in with admission.
- Pairing the trip with SeaWorld Orlando is a full day at each park. Official drive is about 1 hour from Orlando on I-4 (1 to 2 hours with traffic). Busch Gardens often runs a shorter day than SeaWorld.
When to go
Hours vary, and I cannot pull a clean hours grid off their site, so I am not going to invent a late-August calendar. We hit the official hours page again on August 26 and it is still a JS calendar. The FAQ says opening and closing times vary by season, and ride hours can differ from park hours. Check hours the week you go.
- Orlando Informer's range (not the official calendar): 10 am to 6 pm at the minimum, 9 am to 7 pm most of the year, summer often until 10 pm, latest without a special event 11 pm. Early November, January, and February can close around 6 pm on weekdays, so go on weekends then.
- Wild Skies drone show still prints Friday through Sunday through September 6. Bier Fest Brews & BBQ is still Saturday and Sunday, July 25 through September 7, 2026. Today is August 26, so that is the last two weekends.
- Howl-O-Scream is still select dates September 11 through October 31, 2026. The $38.99 any-night sale from August 19 is gone. The tickets page on August 26 sells a Single-Night ticket from $49.99 (was $125.99) plus a free 1-time Quick Queue, separate from day admission. Howl starts at 7:00 p.m. That ticket lets you in at 5 p.m. on the selected night. Halloween Spooktacular is Sat/Sun September 12 through November 1. Christmas Town is select nights November 13 through January 4, 2027. Pin Trading is September 26. Passport to Screams still prints August 10 through August 30, so that window is in its last days.
- July heat is no joke. Rainy season is May to mid-October. Heat lightning closes rides. Pack a refillable bottle (the one outside-food exception) and a poncho.
Getting there and parking
From I-75, take Fowler Avenue exit 265 (the USF exit), west on Fowler to McKinley Drive (first light past the USF main entrance), then left and south into the lot. From St. Pete, I-275 north to Fowler, east 2.5 miles, then right on McKinley. About 1 hour from Orlando via I-4, 30 minutes from Tampa International.
- The FAQ still prints general parking starting at $32 plus tax, and preferred starting at $35 with a 10'8" clearance. Rates change daily. About 5,000 spaces. Silver, Gold, and Platinum Annual Pass members park free in general. The add-ons page has a different FAQ line that says parking starts at $30, and the product cards on that same August 26 pull printed general at $35 and preferred at $48. I am not picking a winner. Re-check at purchase or the booth.
- Preferred will not get you in early. A July 2025 report said the parking gates stayed closed until around 9:30 am.
- Give yourself 30 to 45 minutes before the published open in summer. A Saturday guest who arrived at 10:15 sat 35 minutes in the parking line, paid $35 standard ($37.63 with tax), then the tram, and hit the gate around 11:00. The tram after close was a backlog.
- There is a free Orlando shuttle. Reservations required, not day-of, one pick-up and one drop-off each way. A no-show after 5:00 AM local on travel day is $10 per passenger. I already said what I would do with that shuttle if the rest of the week is Orlando.
Admission and tickets
We pulled the official ticket page on August 19 during the End of Summer Sale, and we hit it again on August 26. Any Day is still $55 against a $147.99 gate, good through September 30. They move. Kids 2 and under are free.
| Ticket | August 26, 2026 price |
|---|---|
| Any Day Ticket (through September 30, 2026) | $55.00 (was $147.99) |
| Single-day (date-specific) | from $59.99 (was $147.99) |
| 2-day two-park | $99.99 total ($50.00/day, was $111.00/day), any mix of Busch Gardens Tampa, Adventure Island, SeaWorld Orlando, and Aquatica Orlando |
| 3-day three-park | $139.99 total ($46.66/day, was $79.33/day), same Florida-park group |
| Four Parks Unlimited + free parking | $219.99 total ($55.00/park, was $76.25/park), 14 consecutive days |
| Busch Gardens + Adventure Island | $114.99 (was $204.99) |
| 2027 Fun Card | $114.99, rest of 2026 plus 2027, Adventure Island included |
| Howl-O-Scream Single-Night (September 11 through October 31, 2026) | from $49.99 (was $125.99), plus a free 1-time Quick Queue, separate from day admission. The $38.99 any-night card from August 19 did not reprint. |
- All-Day Dining on that same tickets page is still about $40 extra standalone, $30 a day on the 2-day, $25 a day on the 3-day. The add-ons and dining cards still print $59.99 adult (ages 10+) / $29.99 child (ages 3 to 9). Both numbers are live. I am not averaging them.
- The Ultimate Ticket Bundle stacks a ticket, All-Day Dining, Quick Queue Unlimited (still excludes Iron Gwazi and Phoenix Rising), and $20 park credit. One August 26 card printed that bundle at $179.99 (was $300.99).
- Single-day plus All-Day Dining printed $99.99 (was $207.99). Any Day plus All-Day Dining printed $154.99 (was $207.99).
Quick Queue, and whether you need it
Quick Queue Unlimited does not include Iron Gwazi or Phoenix Rising. The upgrades page still sold three versions on August 26 during the End of Summer Sale, and the two rides a lot of people showed up for are carved out of the cheap one. Park admission is separate. Non-refundable, no rain checks.
- Quick Queue is one skip per ride, one day, from $29.99. The page still says NOW BACK.
- Quick Queue Unlimited from $39.99 covers Cheetah Hunt, SheiKra, Serengeti Flyer, Tigris, Cobra's Curse, Montu, Falcon's Fury, and Congo River Rapids. Not valid for Iron Gwazi or Phoenix Rising. A guest on the rope-drop thread said it unprompted: "I have the quick queue unlimited (not the plus version) so gwazi and phoenix won't be included."
- Quick Queue Unlimited PLUS is still $47.99 on the sale (was $59.99). Everything above, plus ONE TIME priority on Iron Gwazi and Phoenix Rising. One time. Not all day.
- One busy Saturday, credits only, buy it. That July Saturday guest called Unlimited the only way they finished the list. Two full days: skip it. Same guest would not have paid if they had a second day.
- If Iron Gwazi and Phoenix Rising are why you came, Unlimited alone does not help you there. PLUS is one ride each.
- TouringPlans likes it because there is no on-site hotel handing the pass out free. Real complaints: staff sometimes did not scan, SheiKra dumped Quick Queue into the regular line, and Cheetah Hunt's Quick Queue has run over an hour when standby was 25 to 30 minutes. Pass members save up to 50%.
The game plan
Look, rope drop is split, because Iron Gwazi frequently does not open with the park, and nobody in the sourced threads named SheiKra or Phoenix Rising as the first stop. SheiKra is a second or third ride after Gwazi and Montu. Veer left. It is big and purple. Visitors clock the walk at 1 minute brisk, or 2 to 3 minutes.
- Queue it before open if you want the first trains. One regular: "I always rope drop and go straight to Gwazi." It usually opens 10:15 to 10:30 for them. They line up even when it is not running and catch the first 3 trains, then walk a circle before that crowd leaves Gwazi.
- It also opens late a lot. "Most of the time I go Gwazi isn't open at rope drop," and "it doesn't open until 11-12." Same thread: the only coasters open at rope drop were Cheetah Hunt, Montu, and Cobra's Curse. Worst case: Gwazi opened a little after 3 pm, Montu and Cobra's Curse at 1.
- Skip it on purpose and ride it around 3 pm. One guest watched it hit 100 minutes around 11 am and rode it around 3 pm in 15 minutes.
Counterclockwise is real. Same morning-strategy thread: the park is more densely packed going counter-clockwise, so by the time you hit the old Kumba / SheiKra corner you are only then meeting the crowds that went the other way to Iron Gwazi, and you already walked on everything else. Kumba is gone, so that far-corner stop is SheiKra now.
- A counterclockwise loop people wrote down: Cheetah Hunt, then Montu, Cobra's Curse, then up toward Serengeti Flyer and on. Pick Gwazi or Cheetah Hunt first, then walk the circle.
- One loop. Main rides first. Animals after. Do not trust the app's open list. Visitors say it marked coasters open when they were not.

The must-do coasters
Visitor order in the sourced threads is Iron Gwazi if it is actually running, then SheiKra, Montu, and Cheetah Hunt, and that last one is the usual backup when Gwazi is sitting. Official stats are from the ride pages. We pulled those pages again on August 26. No closed banner we could treat as a live sign on Cheetah Hunt. The official closure schedule is still JS, so day-of status is still a check, not a grid I can print.
Iron Gwazi is the one the morning argument is about, and the ride page still stamps a 206 foot peak, a 91 degree drop, and 76 mph on this wood and steel hybrid. 48 inches. Quick Queue eligible on paper, still carved out of regular Unlimited. This one is in that top group for me, the ones I will not rank against each other. Single-train ops are the visitor norm, and one trip had 4 to 7 minutes between dispatches in the morning, and it does run two trains on some days now. Ride it when the trains are moving, and do not save it for a fireworks night and hope the line dies.

SheiKra is the 200 foot dive, 54 inches, a 90 degree drop, up to 70 mph, and nobody in those threads treats it as the first stop. It is the second or third ride after Gwazi and Montu, then you are in the far corner. Quick Queue. Honestly I would not save it for last on a fireworks night, because those four (Iron Gwazi, SheiKra, Cheetah Hunt, and Falcon's Fury) can shut about 2 hours early. One Saturday they were down around 8 pm, and that guest asked three workers and got three answers. Hard casts cannot ride this one, or Montu.

Montu is the invert after the front of the park, 54 inches, and the page still names seven inversions including a Batwing and an Immelmann. Quick Queue. When Gwazi is sitting at rope drop, this is one of the three coasters visitors actually found open, with Cheetah Hunt and Cobra's Curse. Same hard-cast rule as SheiKra. Guests who cannot use the normal seating or restraints should not board this one either.

Cheetah Hunt is the usual alternate if Gwazi is sitting closed, 48 inches, a triple-launch, 4,400 feet, and the park's longest ride. Quick Queue. It has gone down for refurbishment, so check the day-of list. We pulled the rides page again on August 26 and Cheetah Hunt is still listed, with no closed banner we could treat as a live sign. That refurb story is still the visitor one. Same fireworks-night early close as SheiKra. Cheetah Hunt's Quick Queue has also run over an hour when standby was 25 to 30 minutes, so do not treat Quick Queue as a walk-on on this one.
| Ride | Min height | Official fact |
|---|---|---|
| Iron Gwazi | 48 inches | 206 ft, 91 degree drop, 76 mph, wood/steel hybrid |
| SheiKra | 54 inches | 200 ft, 90 degree drop, up to 70 mph |
| Montu | 54 inches | 7 inversions, including a Batwing and an Immelmann |
| Cheetah Hunt | 48 inches | triple-launch, 4,400 ft, longest ride in the park |
| Phoenix Rising | 42 inches | family, 44 mph, not on regular Unlimited |
| Falcon's Fury | 54 inches | 335 ft drop tower, pivots 90 degrees, face-first |
- Tigris is 54 inches and launches forward and backward. Cobra's Curse is 48 inches alone, 42 to 48 inches with a companion, Florida's first family spin coaster, and visitors call that standby line slow. Both are on Quick Queue. Cobra's Curse is also on Quick Queue Jr.
- Serengeti Flyer is 48 inches, and the page still calls it the world's tallest and fastest ride of its kind. Congo River Rapids is 42 inches, Quick Queue plus Quick Queue Jr, the mid-day cool-down visitors name.
- Treetop Drop is 42 inches alone, under 38 inches with a companion, a new 35 foot drop in Wild Oasis.
- Air Grover is 38 inches, Sesame Street Safari of Fun, Quick Queue Jr. Gwazi Gliders max out at 56 inches (kids only). Ubanga-Banga Bumper Cars are 42 inches. Grand Caravan Carousel is all ages, in Pantopia.
- Falcon's Fury is the 335 foot tower, 54 inches, seat pivots 90 degrees, face-first. Quick Queue. I finally got this one in 2025. I am not ranking it against the coasters.
- Guests who cannot use normal seating or restraints should not board Falcon's Fury, SheiKra, Cheetah Hunt, Congo River Rapids, Montu, Phoenix Rising, Ubanga-Banga Bumper Cars, Tigris, or Iron Gwazi. That is the official accessibility line on the rides page.
Where to eat
Zambia Smokehouse is the yes. Dragon Fire Grill is the no. A July 2025 review ate at Dragon Fire because it was air-conditioned and called the food just okay, already out of nachos by lunch. The comment under it: picking Dragon Fire over Zambia was the biggest mistake of the day. Zambia has indoor seats too.

- All-Day Dining Deal on the add-ons and dining cards is still $59.99 adult (ages 10+) / $29.99 child (ages 3 to 9). The tickets page still says add it for about $40 standalone. One entree plus one side or dessert plus one fountain drink every 90 minutes. Wristband. Take-out prohibited. A July guest still got upsold ($3 bacon, $9 ICEE).
- The dining pass works at Zagora Cafe, Zambia Smokehouse, Dragon Fire Grill & Pub, Oasis Pizza, BG Cuban Cafe, SheiKra Eats, Tot Topia, Twisted Tails Pretzels. Not valid at Serengeti Overlook Restaurant, Flamecraft Bar, or specialty dines. Child price is kid's meal entrees only. Excludes water bottles, souvenir items, and alcohol.
- Zambia is the open BBQ pit, ribs and brisket, plus smoked chicken. Zagora is burgers and chicken tenders. Chick-fil-A in Jungala is closed Sundays.
- Also named: Coaster Coffee Company (Starbucks coffee, Refreshers, pastries, funnel cake, soft serve), Moroccan Delights, CasBar in Moroccan Village, Springs Taproom in Bird Gardens, Giraffe Bar with Serengeti views. Treetop Kitchen is 3rd floor of Serengeti Overlook, Fri/Sat/Sun from 11:00 AM only, and it is not on the dining pass.
- No outside food, beverages, or coolers, except a bottle of water or a refillable bottle. Exceptions for dietary needs, allergies, and baby formula, clear those with Park Security on arrival.
- Stroller rental from $37. Wheelchair rental from $37. Motorized wheelchair (ECV) from $115, must be 16+, valid photo ID, rental agreement.
Practical tips that trip people up
Florida heat wrecks a day faster than a long line, and visitors say staff handed out water when asked. Bring the bottle. You are allowed to.
- Get the free water if you ask, hit Congo River Rapids mid-day, and duck into Zambia's indoor seats or Jungala's Orangutan Outpost and Tiger Lodge. Heat lightning closes rides. Weather-or-Not Assurance can get you a return visit if extreme weather ruins the day.
- Use the GPS map in the app. Do not trust the wait times or the open/closed flags.
- On a fireworks night, Iron Gwazi, SheiKra, Cheetah Hunt, and Falcon's Fury can close about 2 hours early (one Saturday they were down around 8 pm). That guest asked three workers and got three answers. Do not save Gwazi for last on a show night.
- Lockers: visitors paid $12 for a full day with a 2-hour limit per use. Stay past it and you can get locked out. Iron Gwazi needs bag storage, so this bites at rope drop. The FAQ also prints transferable lockers at $12, plus one-time lockers at $4 for the first two hours and $1 each extra hour, $20 max. Standard / Large / Jumbo day lockers print $15 / $20 / $25. No selfie sticks or hand-held poles on any ride.
- Give yourself time for parking, not just the gate. Preferred does not open the park early. The tram after close backs up.
Where to stay
There is no on-site hotel and no safari lodge, so do not plan on walking out of a room into the gate. TouringPlans uses that to explain why Quick Queue is not flooded with free hotel guests. Lodging is hotel packages with off-site partners on the vacation packages page. Vacation package phone: 407-401-8477. Reserve now, pay later. Refund rights are limited on cancellation.
- Packages there include Eat FREE (one All-Day Dining Deal per person, unlimited visits for the stay, free parking, food and merch discounts) and Kids FREE (child admission ages 3 to 9 with each paid adult, unlimited visits, free parking). Also printed: a Busch Gardens / SeaWorld Thrills Package with one-time Quick Queue valid one day per park (includes Phoenix Rising at Tampa and Expedition Odyssey at SeaWorld Orlando), Buy 2 Nights Get 1 FREE, Adventure Island Free, plus Howl-O-Scream and Christmas Town event packages. Christmas Town copy still prints a $25 merchandise credit.
- If you are pairing with SeaWorld, stay closer to SeaWorld Orlando. Hotels over there are more likely to run a complimentary shuttle, and those still take 1 to 2 hours. The free Orlando shuttle is the no-car option if you can live with one pick-up time. That 2025 ride back is also where Jayden and I started writing the TrackR feature list into a Google Doc on the bus.
- Adventure Island on the same trip, arrive late, not at rope drop. A family of 4 got there at 2:30 pm on a weekday, parked next to VIP because the morning crowd had left, never waited longer than about 7 minutes (Colossal Curl was the long one), and finished by 6:30 with no food lines.
A sample one-day plan
This is a credits-first Saturday using the visitor loop. Published open will not always match ride open, especially at Iron Gwazi. Regular Unlimited still leaves Iron Gwazi and Phoenix Rising on standby. PLUS is one skip on each.
- Be in the parking line 30 to 45 minutes before the published open. Lot gates have sat closed until about 9:30 am.
- Tickets bought, locker plan set (2-hour limit, $12). Do not trust the app's open list.
- Through the gate, veer left toward the purple track. 1 to 3 minutes.
- Two honest choices. Queue Iron Gwazi before it opens if you want the first 3 trains (it may sit until 10:15 to 10:30, or 11 to 12, or, once, 3 pm). Or skip it, start Cheetah Hunt, Montu, and Cobra's Curse, and take Gwazi around 3 pm, when one guest saw 15 minutes instead of 100.
- If you rode Gwazi first, leave the moment you are off and walk the circle before that line spills.
- Counterclockwise from there, Cheetah Hunt, Montu, Cobra's Curse, Serengeti Flyer, Tigris, then SheiKra and Falcon's Fury in the far corner. Phoenix Rising when you are already on the Serengeti side.
- Lunch at Zambia Smokehouse. Skip Dragon Fire Grill. All-Day Dining is every 90 minutes.
- Hottest stretch is Congo River Rapids, free water, and the Jungala indoor rooms.
- Animals when the coaster lines swell, Serengeti Express, SkyRide, walk-through habitats.
- Do not save Iron Gwazi, SheiKra, Cheetah Hunt, or Falcon's Fury for last on a fireworks night. Those can close about 2 hours early.
